My doctor ended up sending me to the ER for my back pain yesterday. I had reached the point where I couldn’t walk, even with the cane my mom loaned me. After 3 1/2 hours in the waiting room I was seen by a doctor who gave me Dilaudid injections directly into the lower back muscles. I came home around three a.m. and slept until four o’clock this afternoon. Now that I am up and I have taken more pain medication I am ready to head off for a nap in front of the TV.
This sounds like it would be dreamy, hours spent doing absolutely nothing, but I am bored out of my mind and anxious to get back to my regular activities. I am fortunate that Alex has been home but he’s back to work tomorrow night. Hopefully I will be able to get up and around by then. Take care of your backs!! This is no way to live.

Oh, that stinks. I hope you are up and about soon. I can so relate! I have a back that’s given me troubles my entire life. Two back surgeries and several occasions of being in the hospital for extended periods of time are major suckage. The funny thing is, when it’s good, it’s good. And then out of the clear blue sky it rears its ugly head as if to tell me “A ha! You thought I was done with you! snicker snort…
hahahahaha.”
Let yourself get better and watch the twisting and turning. I fear that the f.m. shoes may be out of the question for awhile! Damn, I was so looking forward to that shopping trip, too!
Hi Belle. Thanks for the note. My doctor is talking surgery too. I don’t know whether to do it or not.Do you regret yours? I have the most trouble with the bending over. I am trying not to, but it seems as if everything I need to do involves bending over. Taking out the trash, unloading the dishwasher etc.
We could go virtual shoe shopping together! That way we wouldn’t have to worry about prices, or even if we could walk in the damn things.
Tammy,
I hope you are feeling better…I know it hurts. My back has never been as bad as you describe yours, but I know that any kind of back problem is just debilitating in general. I REALLY hope you get better. I am thinking of you!!

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for thinking of me. I am feeling better today. I am able to get up and around a bit and do a few things around the house. I am trying not to over do it, but it feels good to be able to walk.

I really had no choice…2 herniated disks the 1st time, then 3 herniated (and different) disks the 2nd time. I never ever have regretted it because it eliminated the terrific sciatic pain immediately. However, there was resulting nerve damage (that I’ve learned to compensate for) because I probably waited a tad too long. Then add the degenerative changes to the remaining portion of the disks, scar tissue, and arthritis. It’s really best not to mess with that spine unless you have to! Try to baby that back as well as you can, and that means learning what you can and cannot do. Bowling and tennis are out!
Damn. Bowling was on my list of things to do before I die. Seriously, I’ve never played, although I have watched my kids.
Good lord, your back really was a mess. This might sound like a dumb question, but that has never stopped me before: Do you know how you herniated so many disks?
Thanks for answering. I have to go see my doctor soon and she’s going to refer me for surgery. I’d rather get a face lift than have anyone cut into my back and that’s really saying something as I have a fear of any type of cutting on my face.
I do hope that you are almost pain free now.

Tammy, I’ll e-mail you so as not to hog up space on your journal.
