A few months back I got into it in the morning and slowly realized that someone had stolen all of the cds -- most of them childrens' cds. I lay awake at night for weeks afterwards, imaging all sorts of noises coming from right outside. My 5 year old still asks every day, several times a day, if the van is locked. It's that feeling of safety that they steal, and that's the real crime. My van is parked literally 2 feet from our front door. A few months back I got into it in the morning and slowly realized that someone had stolen all of the cds — most of them childrens’ cds.

I lay awake at night for weeks afterwards, imaging all sorts of noises coming from right outside. My 5 year old still asks every day, several times a day, if the van is locked.

It’s that feeling of safety that they steal, and that’s the real crime.
